This is the oldest women’s university in the US with a large collection of law books and backfile journals. In preparing a detailed building program for the renovation and expansion of the Fant Memorial Library, Dick (working as a PROVIDENCE Associates LLC independent contractor) introduced the ASRS (automated storage & retrieval system) concept that reduced the overall size of the project by about 8,000 square feet and also reduced the estimated construction cost by $500,000. The building should open in 2010.

Dick Waters reviewed and significantly revised the original building program that was far too expensive to build (too many square feet). A new program was drafted, carefully reviewed up and down the organization, and an ASRS system was proposed for the storage of archives, bound journals, and older monographs as well as for the extensive collection of materials for the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. The building is now in the design development phase. Dick has completed his review of the Schematic Design. The new state library facility should open in 2011.

Dick Waters prepared an assessment report, making recommendations regarding collections, staffing, technology, and services. Following acceptance of the report by the College Board of Trustees, a building program was prepared for the renovation and expansion of the building, a project that will increase the size of the present facility by 150 percent.
